About Sarah

Hello, I'm Sarah, and I'm a qualified cognitive-behavioural therapist, mediator, and group-work facilitator.

I come from a family of folk who work in mental health and have always had a keen interest in psychology and mental health. I bring experience of working across many varied sectors to my practice, ranging from working in local council offices supporting people with housing and benefit claims to call centres, hospitality, further education, and a lengthy career in the arts and live events. Which is a long way of saying I tried a lot of jobs before I worked in the arts!

I started working in the arts because I felt (rather ambitiously) that it could help change the world, or at least open people's eyes to a view outside their own. I still believe this can be the case, but I reached a point where I wanted to work more directly with people to support them through life's ups and downs, so I trained to become a therapist. During this time, I realised how hard it can be to explain life in the creative world to those who have no understanding of that lifestyle: the irregular hours, the uncertainty, the emotional labour, and how all of that can directly impact your mental health and those around you. If you work in the arts, live events, or any creative field and have ever felt like a therapist just doesn't get your world, I hope I can be that person for you.

During my therapy training, I began working with and supporting young adults in further education, gaining a greater understanding of how confusing it can be to transition from school to the more grown-up world of college, uni life, and beyond. That shift can be a lot, and sometimes you just need someone in your corner while you figure it out.

All of these experiences have instilled in me an insightful understanding of life's varied paths and inspired my journey into therapy, driven by a commitment to providing a non-judgmental, supportive environment where individuals can unravel the challenges they face. Grounded in compassion and an empathetic connection, my approach encourages openness and trust, helping clients feel genuinely supported rather than judged.

In addition to my CBT training, I'm a qualified mediator — which means I have specific skills in helping people navigate conflict, difficult relationships, and communication breakdowns, whether in personal or professional contexts. If that's something you'd like to explore, feel free to get in touch, and we can chat about whether it might be helpful for you.

I aim to guide people towards self-understanding and self-compassion, fostering meaningful and positive change through a collaborative, empowering process. Together, we explore various techniques, drawing from evidence-based tools and resources tailored to your comfort and pace. Sessions can be talk-based, involve practical exercises, or explore past experiences, such as family dynamics and core beliefs. If you're curious about what a typical session looks like, please get in touch to find out more.

Outside of one-to-one therapy, each week I support a mental health chat café in the Southside of Glasgow, where people come together to discuss how their week has been and any bigger mental health needs they may have. Some are regulars who have been coming for years, some come for one night only, and some fall somewhere in the middle. It's a genuinely welcoming wee community, and I'd love for you to be part of it. Get in touch if you'd like to know more or come along.

It is as hard for me to know what to tell you as it is for you to know what to ask about me. Hopefully, this introduction gives you a flavour; if you have any more questions, just let me know.
